Daily school life

A typical day in Kindergarten, primary and secondary.

Our Kindergarten, primary and secondary students will take you through their day in short video clips. They will tell you about lessons, excursions, after school activities and celebrations. Please note that these clips were filmed at our previous school building.

Parents accompany their children to the classroom every morning where they will be welcomed by the classroom teacher. A day in a Kindergarten (KG) classroom will be built around free and guided play and Unit of Inquiry lessons either inside or outside of the classroom. Our youngest students also have specialist teachers for drama, music, visual arts, yoga, PHE and Dutch Language Acquisition. Every week they visit the school library and during the year they go on field trips and excursions. Children will also join celebrations such as Sinterklaas, Koningsdag (King's Day), Autumn festival and Home Languages Week.

Primary students arrive at school at 8:20 and independently go to their classroom for the start of the first lesson at 8:30. Besides spending time with their classroom teachers, primary students have specialist teachers for Dutch Language Acquisition, visual arts, drama, music, computational thinking and PHE. Primary students have a snack break in the morning when they go outside to play. At lunch time students will eat their packed lunch in the classroom before going outside to play. Students go on field trips and excursions as part of the curriculum and join celebrations like Winter Dinner, Holi or Kinderboekenweek. Our oldest students in grade 5 go for a three day overnight camp in their final year in primary.

Secondary students often travel to school by bike. Students who come from further afield might use public transport (train/tram/bus) to get to school. Secondary students have lessons according to their timetable. They might also have lesson free periods during the day, meant for self study. Students often bring their own packed lunch, which they might heat up at school. Students can also order a salad or sandwich from an external catering company which is set up in the school. Every other school year secondary students go on a residential trip to destinations, such as Terschelling, Friesland, Maastricht, Antwerpen or Paris. During the year student will go on several field trips or excursions, see plays or go to concerts that tie in with the curriculum. There is an active secondary student council who organises festivities, such as Valentine's Day, Spirit Week and Halloween in school. Our After School Drama Troupe puts on a big performance every other school year.
